Directed by Sarah Gavron and written by Abi Morgan, Suffragette follows a young laundry worker in 1912 London who is gradually drawn into the militant campaign for women’s right to vote.
By telling the story through a working class woman rather than the movement’s famous leaders, it shows what activism cost ordinary women: their jobs, their families and their freedom.
